Best value: Sagrada Família

At about 0.78 kr per piece, LEGO's largest set so far is also the cheapest per piece of the three. It is the longest build by far and the most 'architectural' model. The catch is the absolute price, and that it has only just launched – so wait for the first discount.

Most detail and stories: Venetian Neighbourhood

17 minifigures, interiors you can open up and sections you can rearrange. It is the most lively of the three, and the most expensive per piece. Also brand new, so wait.

Most urgent: Rivendell

The only one with a deadline – Brickset expects it to retire on 31 December 2026. If you have wanted it for a while, this is the season to buy, ideally on a deal during Black Friday.

So which one?

• You want one big build and care about value: Sagrada Família, after a discount.
• You love minifigures and little scenes: Venetian Neighbourhood, after a discount.
• You are a Lord of the Rings fan: Rivendell, before the end of the year.
• You are short on space: look at the footprint first – Rivendell is the widest at 72 cm, Sagrada Família the most compact at 47 × 39 cm.
